What were they thinking!?!

So, I saw the news about this on a muted tv while running on the treadmill. The New Yorker crossed the line on its freedom of press. An established media company needs to be responsible with the contents it publishes, even if it is a satire. While freedom of press is important, so is our presidential election. Tensions are high in politics, and media is a strong force for swaying decisions. A photo of a presidential candidate in Muslim garb and his wife carrying a rifle is a strong statement, even in jest. A man's faith should not be a deciding factor for a good president, but we live in the United States where for some UNGODLY reason, a man's (or a woman's) faith has become part of the campaign trail.

It amazes me that my media, my government and my people have the audacity through the years to criticize the 'democracy' of other developing or under developed governments on democratic practices when we only have to look in the mirror to find the same flaws. Irresponsible publication can MAKE election decisions much like violent threats in some elections held in Africa. Even in the 21st century, people will not vote for Obama because of the sound of his name or the color of his skin OR even for a religion that he doesn't even practice. Media needs to be even more aware of the responsibilities it must uphold in order to have a fair election...or we could end up just like the countries we judge.

I can't wait to start working!

So the other day at my apartment I had a little tiff with a bird. I went to my deck area and noticed a bunch of rubbish in the corner. I threw it over the edge of my deck. Then a bird comes by and tweets at me for like 10 min. She looked like she was ready to fight...I could see it in her eyes! Melissa and I thought I threw out a nest it was working on, so I felt super bad. "Tweet, tweet...tweet, tweet, tweet"

So I walk away and come back and the bird comes back again and tweets again. Finally I realized there was a nest right above my head on top of the porch light. She was trying to protect her eggs. "Tweet, tweet"

Here's the picture of the little lady.

I wonder if the eggs have hatched yet.

American Psycho

"Now is the time. Okay. It is being a scientologist, people turn to you so you better know it. You better know. And if you don't, you know, go and learn it."

Is this really what goes on in his pretty little head?!? Scary. I wonder how Katie lives with him. So Jerry O'Connell did a parody, and I had to venture the world of google to find this video.

I think the ultimate haha would be if this whole Psycho Scientology is a big joke to Tom Cruise and he's been "Just playin'" for the last have ever many years. He's been building up to his ultimate acting career by fooling the world, but somehow I doubt it.

The cost of medicine is INSANE!

I finally went to the doctor's office today for this cough that I've had for weeks, and the lady gave me two prescriptions: one anti-biotic and the other is an inhaler. So, I got to CVS and handed a printed copy of my insurance card. They told me 15 min later that I gave them the wrong thing and they needed a separate medical card JUST FOR MEDICINE. Why do we have so many different cards?

Either case, they gave me the break down of the two prescriptions if I didn't have the card. They would have been $99 and over $200, respectively. I wasn't paying either. It's a good thing I have insurance, but it's insane to think that if you didn't, you would have to pay those ridiculous amounts. No wonder the sick poor stay sick AND poor. I'm sure some are wasting their entire savings on drugs.

No, I will not support you Mike Huckabee.

With the death of Benazir Butto, the presidential campaign is all about the spin. Mike Huckabee claims the unrest in Pakistan poses a real threat to our country through our unsecured borders. He states more Pakistanis (660) came to US illegally last year than any other nationals "except for those immediately south of our border". Um, Mike, check your dates. I think those numbers were from Home Land Security dated 2002-2005. And in those same years, there were more illegal immigrant from Canada (5,641), India (1,274) and Poland(786)!

Scary to think a man that MAKES UP FACTS and has little foreign-policy experience could be a front runner for the Republicans. Eek! But yes, Huckabee has faced a tornado, a school shooting, and even a plane crash as governor. He's DEFINITELY qualified as a candidate for handling "unexpected" situations. If that's the case, I say hands down, Giuliani should win. Who else handled 9/11 so well...

I once had a conversation with one of my co-workers who is a big fan of Al Gore and didn't really understand how Gore could lose to Bush. My response was Gore is boring and not likable and Bush is. His response went something like this, "Who cares if the president would be my friend. I want my president to lead and make decisions."

With Obama and Clinton being the two front runners for democrats, I wonder how much being likable is going to sway voters. While Clinton is less likable than our "clean" and "articulate" Obama, she shows a lead in the polls for other important qualities, such as "knowledge and experience" and "strong leadership qualities". I wonder if these qualities count for anything when our society still cannot see women leaders in the same light as their male counterparts. Study Or even better, we have this guy swaying voter decision. Frankly, I think our constitution should be thrown out the window if Americans are going to mix Church and State. I say, if you believe in God and God gave you a brain, use it. Judge the presidents on his/her policies and not religion. Judge your president on his/her ability and not his/her looks or likability. Prior to the presidency of JFK, we placed very little emphasis on looks and religion in our presidents.

On a lighter note, Letterman is back on TV by Wed. His writers are coming back...
