With the death of Benazir Butto, the presidential campaign is all about the spin. Mike Huckabee claims the unrest in Pakistan poses a real threat to our country through our unsecured borders. He states more Pakistanis (660) came to US illegally last year than any other nationals "except for those immediately south of our border". Um, Mike, check your dates. I think those numbers were from Home Land Security dated 2002-2005. And in those same years, there were more illegal immigrant from Canada (5,641), India (1,274) and Poland(786)!

Scary to think a man that MAKES UP FACTS and has little foreign-policy experience could be a front runner for the Republicans. Eek! But yes, Huckabee has faced a tornado, a school shooting, and even a plane crash as governor. He's DEFINITELY qualified as a candidate for handling "unexpected" situations. If that's the case, I say hands down, Giuliani should win. Who else handled 9/11 so well...

I once had a conversation with one of my co-workers who is a big fan of Al Gore and didn't really understand how Gore could lose to Bush. My response was Gore is boring and not likable and Bush is. His response went something like this, "Who cares if the president would be my friend. I want my president to lead and make decisions."

With Obama and Clinton being the two front runners for democrats, I wonder how much being likable is going to sway voters. While Clinton is less likable than our "clean" and "articulate" Obama, she shows a lead in the polls for other important qualities, such as "knowledge and experience" and "strong leadership qualities". I wonder if these qualities count for anything when our society still cannot see women leaders in the same light as their male counterparts. Study Or even better, we have this guy swaying voter decision. Frankly, I think our constitution should be thrown out the window if Americans are going to mix Church and State. I say, if you believe in God and God gave you a brain, use it. Judge the presidents on his/her policies and not religion. Judge your president on his/her ability and not his/her looks or likability. Prior to the presidency of JFK, we placed very little emphasis on looks and religion in our presidents.
